Electro Magnetic Fields And Your Immunity

I decided to visit the Moses Mabhida Stadium, yesterday. I went for a walk to soak up some sun.

Being Conscious of wellness and lifestyle I found myself watching children on their bicycles and roller blades and thinking "what a good workout they are getting while absorbing vitamin D from the sun...and having fun!"

Then...I saw a few people on segways, those two wheeled self-balancing battery powered electric machines.  And I couldn't help but think "these children have got it right, while those just float around getting absolutely no benefits!"  I began to think of the risks of not getting enough movement:

  • Circulatory:   exercise aids lymph and blood circulation to remove toxins
  • Osteoporosis:  bones lose density and become porous and weak.
  • Obesity:  movement is essential to weight management
  • Heart Disease.....
  • Laziness....and more!

Hospitals have reported a high number of injuries on segways, as not all wear helmets.  Common injuries are facial and head trauma. The risk is higher when driven across uneven terrain.  One needs to be very aware of inanimate objects on the ground, as most injuries occur when driving over objects.

Coincidentally, the creator of the segway, Jimi Heselden died when he had a freak accident on the two wheeled machine and drove off the edge of a cliff into a river near his home in 2010!

I tried not to be too biased and considered the pros and cons of this machine.  The only positive I could think of may be the benefits to those with disability.  But then again, the risk of more injury while trying to balance on it is really high. One would be better off using the mobile powered wheelchairs.  And...if one used it to travel a short distance around the neighborhood, as opposed to using their car, this could be more earth-friendly.  But still, if the distance is short one should rather enjoy the benefits of walking.  I felt that the risks far outweighed the benefits.

And as I thought of the various modes of transport, I was reminded of the EMF dangers of modern living. A car is definitely useful for travelling long distances.  I know that I enjoy doing a country trip into the Midlands from time to time.  But these things come at a cost if not managed well.

Electro Magnetic Field (EMF) radiation is of great concern these days. It is harmful to the brain and pineal gland among other things. Electronics, especially being seated on the chair of an electric car is known to have a number of negative impacts on the body. When you sit in any vehicle (whether petrol/diesel/hybrid/ev) you are subjected to it.

Our bodies are bombarded daily by a multitude of EMF sources - computers, cell phones, WiFi, power lines, fluorescent lights, home wiring, airport and military radar, substations, transformers and appliance; it leads to pain, inflammation, sleep disorders, increased risk of cancer and much more. Some things we have little control over, although we can distance ourselves from the harsh effects that happen in close range with the sources of some eg. WiFi and smart meters. We can manage the use of cellphones and computers more wisely.

The most important thing that we should focus on is minimizing exposure, building our immune system by eating good clean food, mostly raw living foods from the earth.  The healthier we are, the better we can cope with the various forms of pollution around us.  Go barefoot and ground yourself daily, for at least 20 minutes or more to release EMF build up in the body too.  Eating ferments, superfoods, and as much organic raw foods can be truly beneficial in protecting you.  Wheatgrass (chlorophyll) and Spirulina (blue-green algae) are excellent to protect against radiation, be sure to buy an organic product and buy the powder form, not tablets. Apparently onion and garlic is also good.

A very good friend and Natural Doctor shared a very useful website with me recently, to help and enlighten others on the dangers of EMF.  The website is designed by Jeromy Johnson, a safe technology advocate. The purpose of his website is to help you reduce the EMF pollution in your life and to help people who have already had their health negatively affected by electromagnetic fields (EMF). Jeromy learnt this the hard way himself and he hopes that others will learn from his experience.

Do you know that there are actually EMF Refugees?  You will find them on Jeromy's website. Yes, these are people who have experienced such severe health issues that they have had to move out of the city to EMF free zones.

Jeromy Johnson says: "I have a master’s degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering and I have worked at a large Silicon Valley firm for 15 years. One of the focuses of my studies was air pollution. Little did I know that I would be revisiting this topic later in life. Even though it is invisible to the naked eye, man-made pulsed digital microwave radiation is one of the most potent and fastest growing sources of air pollution in our world. It may seem invisible to you now, but perceptions shift as humanity evolves. Within our lifetimes, the truth about this toxin will become evident."

Nourish your body better to build stronger immunity, it is vital! Also...visit Jeromy's site for guidance and solutions on EMF at

So...what do you think of these two wheeled self-balancing machines?

Sacrificing Health and Wellness in the Pursuit of Financial Success

Let us not forget the true value of health and wellness; and living life purposefully, and to the fullest, whilst we pursue financial success.

I want to share with you Steve Jobs' Last Words.  I see that there is some speculation around whether he said this or is a good read and helps bring some perspective:

I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In others’ eyes, my life is an epitome of success.

However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to.

At this moment, lying on the sick bed and recalling my whole life, I realize that all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in, have paled and become meaningless in the face of impending death.

In the darkness, I look at the green lights from the life supporting machines and hear the humming mechanical sounds, I can feel the breath of god of death drawing closer…

Now I know, when we have accumulated sufficient wealth to last our lifetime, we should pursue other matters that are unrelated to wealth…

Should be something that is more important:
Perhaps relationships, perhaps art, perhaps a dream from younger days

Non-stop pursuing of wealth will only turn a person into a twisted being, just like me.

God gave us the senses to let us feel the love in everyone’s heart, not the illusions brought about by wealth.

The wealth I have won in my life I cannot bring with me. What I can bring is only the memories precipitated by love.

That’s the true riches which will follow you, accompany you, giving you strength and light to go on.

Love can travel a thousand miles. Life has no limit. Go where you want to go. Reach the height you want to reach. It is all in your heart and in your hands.

What is the most expensive bed in the world? Sick bed…
You can employ someone to drive the car for you, make money for you but you cannot have someone to bear the sickness for you.

Material things lost can be found. But there is one thing that can never be found when it is lost – Life.

When a person goes into the operating room, he will realize that there is one book that he has yet to finish reading – Book of Healthy Life.

Whichever stage in life we are at right now, with time, we will face the day when the curtain comes down.

Treasure Love for your family, love for your spouse, love for your friends.

Treat yourself well. Cherish others.

Remember that your Health is your Wealth....and the number one pillar upon which you should build your life foundation.

Be Well

What Is Love?

How do you define Love?  Can you define Love?  What is true Love?

There are two types of Love

There is Human Love and Spiritual Love.  What is the difference?

Human Love

Human Love has expectations and disappointments. People hold different views and opinions on what Love is, and define it by their own personal needs and selfish desires. For example:  I will Love you if you do.........for me, and if you look......a certain way, and maybe even dress a certain way!  Some believe that they can only feel love if these needs are met.  Human Love can be demanding.  It comes with rules and conditions. We want others to Love us as we are, yet we place so many boundaries on them. Love cannot exist with parameters, and so it never lasts and is ever fleeting!

Do you feel that you have to be in a relationship in order to experience Love?  Do you believe that Love is outside of yourself?  Human Love is a Love that seeks outside recognition and acknowledgement, often through another being.

What rules have you created around Love?  Does it restrict your capacity to give Love?  Ask yourself honestly. What are your conditions? What limitations are you setting for yourself?  Do you want a Love that is bound with conditions, or do you want to experience a deep and profound Love?  Do you want a Divine Love? What is Divine Love?

Divine Love

Divine Love is an inward out experience, not an outward in experience.  Divine Love is your inner Source of being and true Essence.  It can be found at the very center of your Soul...of your Self.  It is something that you experience on a very deep level within and it can be poured out to the world abundantly...and felt abundantly...when accessed!  The love within you is limitless!  It has no conditions and expectations, it is all inclusive and brings joy in giving.

You can experience your Essence and Divine Love by learning to be present and capturing the feeling of simply being your Self.  Look at life and at people with fresh new eyes....with the curiosity of a child...and this will reveal the love that was there always, just waiting to be found.

The fulfillment that you will experience from seeing the true source of Love in its Purest form....the Desire to give Love without conditions, not the Human Desire that is needy.

Why Do We Seek Love?

We only tend to seek Love when we feel that something is missing...when we feel unfulfilled.  This is a result of living a life that we are not connected to.  What are you seeking really?  If you look honestly....your seeking may in fact be looking for something other than Love...perhaps security....acceptance....freedom? Becoming fully connected within, and living with passion, will bring a life of joy.

When you are seeking Love...what you don't realize is that what you are truly seeking is the Self.  What you truly desire is to experience the reality of this want to experience the vibrancy of being Alive!

Stop looking for Love and learn to access Love where you are.  You do not realize that your desire to seek Love is actually your desire to find your Nature.  You want to experience the Essence of Love...deep down you know that this is your True Nature. We must understand that our relationships are just spiritual teachers and not true sources of Love.

On Union

I am not saying that we must depend only on Divine Love.  We are humans and need to experience union with another. We are social beings and this connection is important....but....we must seek to bring Divine Love into our human relationships more to experience fulfillment and happiness.

It is important to remember that we need to show actions of Love, and behave in ways that are kind and loving, to one another.  If you find yourself in a relationship that does not reciprocate, this is not healthy, and can sap you.  There needs to be a mutual sharing and desire and commitment to loving and supporting each other, in a way that will bring out the best in each another.

Access your inner source and wealth of is there always...just waiting for you!

Talking To Your Body for Health and Healing

(This post was featured as a Guest Article on Danette May, America's Leading Healthy Lifestyle Expert)

Do you know that our thoughts, feelings, beliefs and attitudes can negatively affect our biological functioning? Our minds can affect how healthy our bodies are!  Today I want to share with you....Mind Body Medicine....

What is Mind-Body Medicine?

The University of Maryland Medical Centre states: "Mind-body medicine uses the power of thoughts and emotions to influence physical health. As Hippocrates once wrote, "The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well. "This is mind-body medicine in a nutshell."

The History of Mind-Body Medicine

"The concept that the mind is important in health and illness dates back to ancient times. In the West, the notion that mind and body were separate began during the Renaissance and Enlightenment eras. Increasing numbers of scientific and technological discoveries furthered this split and led to an emphasis on disease-based models, pathological changes, and external cures. The role of mind and belief in health and illness began to re-enter Western health care in the 20th century, led by discoveries about pain control via the placebo effect and effects of stress on health." (NIH, 2016)
Mind-body medicine focuses on: The ways in which emotional, mental, social, spiritual, experiential, and behavioral factors can directly affect health. (NIH, 2016)

Ancient healing practices like Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine have always emphasized the links between the mind and the body. Holistic Practitioners of Eastern Medicine, Homeopathic Practitioners, Drs of Naturopathy, and recently Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine in Western Medicine, understand the relationship between our physical body and emotions. Western Medicine is now beginning to agree with these ancient practices.

  • In 1964, a psychologist George Solomon, investigated the impact emotions had on inflammation and the immune system, when patients worsened with depression
  • In 1975, a psychologist, Robert Ader, found mental and emotional cues affected the immune system.
  • In the late 1960's, Herbert Benson, Clinical Professor of Medicine at Harvard University, created the phrase 'relaxation response' to describe physiological changes that occur with meditation. He discovered this while doing secret research and observing meditation practitioners.  Though there was public acceptance of mind-body connection in those days, it was seen as taboo by Western Medicine. He was reprimanded for publishing his book 'relaxation response'...but...
  • By 1994 Benson's found the Mind/Body Medical Institute at Harvard University.

Understanding Mind and Body Medicine Today

Since the advent of new technology...Western Medicine is now finding that the mind, brain and biological systems are in fact working together to affect our health!

Western Medicine now states…"There is no real division between mind and body because of networks of communication that exist between the brain and neurological, endocrine and immune systems."

" There is no doubt that when you take it to the next level, the mind and the body are connected, and that when those connections are intact and in balance you have health
and when they're broken you have disease."
Esther Sternberg MD, University of Arizona

How Does Mind-Body Medicine Work?

When physically or emotionally stressed the body releases stress hormones that affect your systems and organs, this can disrupt heart and immune function, while depression and distress can diminish the body's natural capacity to heal.

It has been found that certain emotions have been associated with disease eg. hostile attitudes increase heart disease, obesity, insulin resistance, and abnormal cholesterol. High blood pressure is associated with feelings of hopelessness. How one deals with their emotions determine how long they will survive with chronic disease.

Mind-body medicine techniques help the mind and body to relax and reduce the level of stress hormones in the body, helping you achieve homeostasis by balancing the parasympathetic system (rest and digest) and sympathetic system (fight or flight), allowing the immune system to fight illness effectively.

Taking care of our emotional well-being is so important for the health of our body, and creating a healthy dialogue between body and mind can help bring harmony.

How Self-Talk and Mind-Body Medicine Helped Me:

I began experiencing the benefits of Mind-Body Medicine in 2007 when I explored meditation practice.  I also learnt natural therapies like Emotional Freedom Technique that worked with stress and emotions.  By combining these practices along with good lifestyle habits and eating healthy living foods, I experienced amazing results!

Exercise - I prefer quiet when I exercise, as opposed to the loud music found in gyms. This allows me to listen to my breath for single pointed focus.  I tune into my body and talk to it for improved performance.

Health and Healing -  I do this in bed before I sleep, because our bodies heal during sleep. I place my hand on my heart to connect with Soul center, this is important because it is the center of your being (body, Soul, mind), and I talk to my body and encourage it to use its innate intelligence to heal.  Sometimes I visualize the areas that need healing.

Reduce Stress and Improve Sleep -  I connect with my body at any moment of the night or day, when under stress, and reassure it that all will be okay.  I do breath-work meditations - I breathe in for 4 counts, hold for 7, and breathe out for 8, this slows down the heart and induces sleep.

Importantly...I like to observe the problem and try learn what the experience is teaching me.

I have been practicing Self-Talk since 2007. It has helped me to get through my greatest challenges in 2014 and 2015.

Mind Body exercises that give Olympic Athletes the edge

Self Talk:
To sharpen skills and improve technique a golfer will tell himself  "swing at the hip". To build strength and confidence before the game motivational self talk is used to get their energy flowing eg. "I can do this".

Athletes performs a mental exercise with visualization. They mentally rehearse the process and visualize the desired performance. Science shows that this visualization technique is a mental exercise that conditions your mind and body to act accordingly in the real world - and that brings results!

This teaches them to look at the event from a different perspective, to look at their failures as learning opportunities.  Reframing gives athletes power and resilience to keep pushing ahead.

This is growing in popularity with many athletes.  Simple 15 to 30 minute breathing meditations improve focus and concentration, bringing them to a state of 'Flow' and 'being in the zone' - highly energized and focused, with a loss of sense of time and self.

Quotes from Meditating Celebrities:

"In moments of madness, meditation has helped me find moments of serenity."
Sir Paul McCartney

"Meditation is helping you to tap into something that's already inside of you....that's you, in essence.  That's something that was super-empowering for me
once I grasped that."
Cameron Diaz

"In meditation, I can let go of everything. I'm not Hugh Jackman. I'm not a dad. I'm not a husband. I'm just dipping into that powerful source that creates everything. I take a little bath in it.  Nothing has ever opened my eyes like Transcendental Meditation has. It makes me calm and happy, and well, it gives me some peace and quiet in what's a pretty chaotic life!"
Hugh Jackman

Fat Burning Mango Smoothie

Here is a dessert smoothie that is really delicious and comes with great benefits!  The best ingredient in here is mango!  I think it is sad that fruit is often given a bad rap by some as they feel there is too much sugar in it, not so true when you compare it to other things.  Fruit is so vital for vitamin and mineral intake, and it contains phytonutrients which work with other essential nutrients to promote good health.  I want to share something really interesting about the mango fruit today......

Mango Burns Fat!

Yes, you heard me right!  Mango can help you to shed unwanted pounds.  How?  Mango increases the production of adiponectin. Adiponectin is a protein hormone produced and secreted by your fat cells (adipocytes).  It is involved in regulating the metabolism of fats and glucose.  It helps you lose weight by perfecting how your body processes insulin and glucose from the foods you eat!  Adiponectin increases glucose uptake into the muscle so that it can be used to burn off as energy.  Glucose is stored in the muscle in a form called glycogen. Adequate adiponectin levels means that you will not have excess glucose in the blood stream that would normally result in excess fat if not used up.  So, it would definitely be a great idea to eat some mango about one hour before your work out to ensure that you can burn up and utilize excess glucose.

I decided to make a smoothie with mango, and I thought I would take this to another level by adding cayenne pepper, as this would increase your metabolism further!  Mangoes do taste great when they are eaten with hot spices.  I remember when I was a teenager, my friend, Tracey, and I would hunt for mango trees; we would sprinkle curry powder on mango and eat it...we loved it! is so wonderful to know that cayenne can boost the fat burning ability of this fruit further!

If you are drinking this before a workout, add banana.  Banana contains potassium and is great for muscle recovery and preventing cramps. If not...then leave out the banana and use one whole mango.  This is a new smoothie that I created with mango this week:

1 banana (or use one whole mango only)
1/2 a piece of mango (depending on size, if big, you may only need a quarter)
350 ml of ice cold water
1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
*Try source organic

Instructions:  chop up the banana and mango, add it to the water with cayenne and blend.  Get to enjoy the natural flavours and sweetness of your fruits in your smoothies, and try not to add sweeteners.

Here are some more wonderful benefits of mango:

Enjoy The Benefits Of:

Mango:  Alkalizes the body and improves digestion.  Cleanses the blood and lowers cholesterol. High in copper. Improves vision.  Improves sex life.  Boosts immune system.  Heat stroke remedy. Boosts red blood cells. Reduces heart disease and maintains healthy nerve function.

I am going to be looking at introducing more fat burning smoothies.  I am going to experiment with some more ingredients and share them with you.  I just love experimenting with natures nutrients and creating wonderfully healthy and yummy things to eat and makes me feel like a mad Scientist sometimes....ha ha....I have great fun doing it! sure to buy some mango this week and enjoy it!  Keep those adiponectin levels up friends.  Make a smoothie.  Or...slice some a little everyday.....and don't forget to sprinkle cayenne pepper...yes...for extra fat burning power! motto for the day is:  "Drink....Shrink....and Enjoy!"

Yours In Good Health

Energizing Green Superfood Smoothie!

I normally love making green juices with raw living foods and lots of leafy greens like kale, spinach or lettuce.  I also like getting in extra green healing superfoods in my day, like organic wheatgrass, moringa, spirulina, and a mix of herbs; I normally take it with water.

So...I was could I use these green superfood powders, to make a nutritious, fast, energizing superfood smoothie?  And this is what I came up with.  You don't have to use so many like I have, you can just use one powder.  Here goes:

1 Banana or half an avocado
250ml ice cold water or ice
1/2 Teaspoon wheatgrass
1/2 Teaspoon moringa
1/2 Teaspoon spirulina
1 Teaspoon mixed herbs (alfalfa, comfrey, ginseng, dandelion, carrot)
1 Tablespoon of sunflower and flax seed freshly ground (optional, but highly recommended)
Nuts - just a few pecan or walnut or almonds (optional)
2 Dates or honey (optional)
3 Tablespoons of coconut milk or cream (optional)

*This serves one. If you add another banana and more water, you can make this for two, be sure to use a teaspoon of the greens then too.

Instructions:  Place ice water first, then all the green powders, then the seeds and nuts etc, and banana last. If you  place the powders last you will find that it flies everywhere and sticks on the top when the blender starts, this way it will mix better.

Well...I can tell you that this smoothie gives you serious turbo boosting really does!  You can actually feel an amazing increase of energy in your body.  And...your cells will just love it and suck it all up.

Chlorophyll and blue green algae powders are wonderful for revitalizing, regeneration and renewal of the cells.  They offer great protection from radiation too.  There is so much to say about these green superfoods that I will really have to do another post on them some day.

Healthy Gluten-Free Biscuits

I want to share with you a very simple biscuit recipe which is gluten free. I use coconut flour instead of regular flour, it is healthy and I love that it bakes so fast; it can even be used in raw dessert recipes, and I use it to thicken smoothies and soups too.  I made this with only four ingredients.  You can play with this and have fun by making all kinds of varieties with the basic recipe by simply adding one other ingredient; I will tell you more about that at the end.

6 Tablespoons coconut flour
2 Eggs
4 Tablespoons of cold pressed coconut oil
2 Tablespoons of raw honey (use to garnish once baked)
(Try source organic)

Instructions:  Take the eggs and coconut oil, whisk together.  Pour this into the coconut flour and spread it through with a fork.  Coconut flour is very absorbing, if the mixture looks too dry, add a few more tablespoons of coconut oil.  You should get a nice moist crumbly mixture.  Then knead the mixture and use your hands to make a nice big doughy ball that you can work with.  Unlike gluten flour, you will find that this is not so pliable so you have to work carefully.  Take a small amount and work it into a small ball in the middle of your hand and lay it out on the baking sheet or tray.  Once all are layed out, use a fork to press them down. Place in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes at 160 degrees, or until lightly browned.  *Coconut flour bakes real fast, so be careful it doesn't burn!

You should get 20 to 24 biscuits out of this depending on how big you make them.

Once it is baked I serve it with raw honey drizzled on top!  I love to have these with organic green tea!

Try to keep it as healthy as possible.  If you want to add sugar to the mix before baking use coconut sugar.  I like to drizzle raw honey after, as heating honey does destroy the living enzymes, making it unhealthy like sugar.

These are the varieties that I have made with this basic recipe:
  • Lemon flavoured -add freshly squeezed juice of one lemon to the mix
  • Peanut butter flavoured - add one tablespoon of natural peanut butter (preservative free) to the mix
  • Pecan nut flavoured - crush a few pecan nuts, or other nuts, into small pieces and add to the mix
  • Chocolate flavoured - add one tablespoon of raw cacao powder to the mix

I love that you can enjoy these coconut flour biscuits without having to worry about the weight gain and damaging effects of gluten flour. I also love that my tummy feels happy and light after eating this, as gluten can make one feel bloated and uncomfortable.

You can find coconut flour at some Spar outlets which are now stocking organics, at Dischem or at your nearest health store.

There is no reason to give up on having yummy treats.  Give up on dieting, it is bad for you.  Change your lifestyle and make healthier choices, it is simply a matter of replacing some ingredients with healthier options. If you use the right ingredients you can have desserts every day.

Try this and let me know what you think.
